If you have bank-related duties to complete in February, you should know that all private and public banks across India will remain closed for 12 days in February. However, banking activities and ATMs will continue to function and not all the states will be eligible for holidays.
The RBI characterizes holidays based on Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, Banks’ Closing of Accounts and Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act, and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday categories. This month, all holidays fall under the Holiday Negotiable Instruments Act.
Other than national holidays, bank holidays are also determined by state governments, there are a few state-specific holidays when banks are closed. For instance, on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, banks in Maharashtra will be closed on February 19, Saturday. In Uttar Pradesh, it is a bank holiday on February 15 (Tuesday) due to the Birthday of Md. Hazrat Ali/Lui-Ngai-Ni. In Tripura, it is a bank holiday on February 5 (Saturday) due to Saraswati Puja.
